Fire pit base. Build the fire pit gravel base adding gravel on top of the compacted dirt will create a base for your fire pit. Our kit can be installed on grass on top of a gravel paver base or on top of a patio. Aim for a fire pit height of 12 to 14 inches from the base of the walls to the top of the walls if you want guests to be able to prop their feet on it while seated around it on standard 18 inch. Wet the gravel thoroughly with a garden hose and then use the hand tamper to compact it into a hard.

Pour a generous amount of crushed gravel paver base into the hole so your finished base will be approximately five inches thick. Add logs and kindling and you re ready for a pleasant evening by the fire.
